Areia Branca, INTERSAL (Ex-TERMISA) - BRARE

The island port, located 14 nautical miles from the city of Areia Branca, is the Areia Branca Salt Terminal (TERSAB), often referred to by the acronym INTERSAL (Ex-TERMISA). It is a specialized maritime terminal for Bulk Salt, situated in Areia Branca, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, constructed between the years 1969 and 1974 to facilitate the export of salt from the salterns of Rio Grande do Norte. This terminal holds strategic significance for the salt industry, as the area around Areia Branca is among the largest salt-producing regions in Brazil.

INTERSAL is primarily dedicated to the storage and export of sea salt, catering to both the national and international market. The terminal's facilities are designed to efficiently manage the loading and unloading of bulk salt, making it a critical juncture in the supply chain for industries reliant on salt, including food processing, chemical production, and road deicing in colder climates.

INTERSAL's infrastructure encompasses extensive salt storage areas before shipment, as well as transport systems that ensure salt is efficiently moved from production sites to the terminal and then onto ships. The operation of the Areia Branca Terminal is crucial not only for salt exportation but also for the local economy, as it provides employment opportunities and supports ancillary businesses.

The terminal's role in the global salt trade underscores its importance beyond the regional economy, highlighting its contribution to Brazil's stance in the international market for this essential mineral. With a focus on sustainability and minimizing environmental impact, INTERSAL operates with practices that ensure the preservation of the surrounding natural habitat, which is vital given the ecological sensitivity of the salt production areas.

The terminal continues to adapt and modernize its operations to meet the growing demands of the salt industry and international trade standards.
