Fortaleza Port ( Mucuripe ) - BRFOR

The Port of Fortaleza, BRFOR, is an important maritime facility located on the northeast coast of Brazil, halfway between Recife and Belém, in Mucuripe Bay.

This port stands out for its unique 1,116 meter long dry cargo dock, serving a wide variety of cargo such as clinker, petcoke, fertilizers, steel and containers. It also has specialized terminals for ore, bulk, petroleum products, liquefied gas and fishing piers. The port's berthing capacity includes several berths with varying lengths and depths, accommodating ships with specific needs for fractional loading and unloading and containers.

Notably, the port does have shore cranes available, relying usualy on ships' equipment to move cargo. The port's maximum draft is 11.00 meters, with a maximum total length (LOA) of 232 meters, beam of 40 meters and deadweight tonnage limit (DWT) of 63k mts. These numbers vary depending on the quay used.

Fortaleza Port plays a crucial role in both exports and imports, moving commodities such as fruits, textiles, machinery, cement, cashew nuts and oil, leather for exports and grains, petroleum products, machinery and ceramic coatings for imports. The port has impressive traffic numbers, with annual cargo movement of approximately 3,632,385 tons, 69,030 TEU, and serving around 145 coastal ships and 471 foreign ships. The port is well equipped with facilities for various types of cargo, including break bulk, containers, liquids, dry bulk and LPG, as well as grain warehouses.

It is protected by a natural promontory and a 1,900 meter long artificial breakwater, guaranteeing a safe harbor for vessels. The port's location on the northeast coast, 335 nautical miles northwest of Recife, and its comprehensive facilities make it a key maritime hub for the region.
