Survey types

On/Off Hire Surveys

Whether you are the Charterer or the Owner of a vessel, it is essential to have the vessel's condition assessed at the start and close of a charter period. An on/off hire survey, usually done in combination with a bunker quantity survey, is carried out when a vessel is delivered to the Charterer or re-delivered to its Owner.

Our experienced surveyors will inspect the vessel's certificates and all compartments and parts to be used by the Charterer, including the condition of holds, hatches, main deck, and loading gear. If the survey concerns a vessel or a ferry, the inspection will also include the accommodation part(s) in use by the Charterer.

The survey can be carried out on behalf of Owners, Charterers, or for mutual interest, and the survey report you will receive can be of assistance to substantiate claims from Owners towards Charterers or to decline a claim towards the Charterer.

n addition, we offer an ultrasonic test to assess the watertightness of the hatch covers, which may be of interest in case of an on-hire survey carried out on behalf of Charterer. Our team owns special (certified) ultrasonic equipment, and several of our surveyors are certified operators.

Our experienced surveyor will perform a thorough survey to verify the quantity and quality of the bunkers on board. Our surveyor will inspect and verify the quantity and quality of the bunkers, taking into consideration any changes in temperature or density that may affect the bunker's volume. We will also perform a detective survey to detect any irregularities or discrepancies in the bunker delivery or consumption.

Our bunker survey process adheres to international guidelines and involves entering all survey results into a computer-based program to ensure accurate figures.

Upon bunkering, our surveyor will also compare the assessed quantity with shore figures and BDN figures for a thorough assessment. At the end of the survey, our surveyor will provide a comprehensive report detailing their findings, including any irregularities or discrepancies, and provide recommendations for any necessary actions to ensure the vessel's safe operation.
